Arbuckle Trail Rides - Horseback Riding
There are multiple ways to experience nature in Chickasaw Country. We have numerous lakes, places to hike and beautiful parks with campgrounds. These are the kind of destinations where you can escape from it all and unplug from technology. If that sounds like a good idea, you are going to love this well kept secret.
Arbuckle Trail Rides is located in Sulphur, Oklahoma, about five miles north of The Artesian Hotel. This place is owned and operated by a husband and wife team, Pete and Cheri Wolfe. Arbuckle Trail Rides has been in business for 15 years. Their success has a lot to do with Pete and Cheri’s passion for nature and horses. They truly love what they do and want everyone to experience a trail ride at least once.
I grew up in a small town and was around livestock my whole life. It has been a while since I have ridden a horse, but it’s like riding a bicycle—you never forget. I recently made the trip down to Sulphur for a two-hour trail ride. When I arrived, Cheri introduced me to my horse, Pete. I knew he was going to be my companion for the next few hours. I packed my saddlebag with water, a camera and my cell phone. You know I can't go anywhere without my cell phone. And we were off; it was time to explore the ranch.
I must say Cheri is an expert tour guide. She pointed out the different types of grasses, trees and wildlife tracks. We even found a tree with bird nests that were made from horse hair––I have never seen that before. We found a beautiful background to take a photo. Looking at it now, I wish this view was on my Christmas cards.
Arbuckle Trail Rides has something for every skill level from beginner to expert. For beginner riders, there are lessons and shorter trail rides. For those more skilled riders, there are longer trail rides and two-day rides with camping. They can even schedule rides for large groups. All you have to do is call and schedule your appointment. It is important to remember to dress for the weather; we all know that Oklahoma can be kind of crazy no matter the season. Don't forget to bring snacks and water for your saddlebag! I promise you'll want to sit back, enjoy the views and reenergize.
Check your calendar and book your appointment. Sulphur is a great area to explore with your family. Don’t forget your camera to capture the candid moments on film. Last but not least, say hi to Pete for me!
