Enjoy Wildlife Watching in Pauls Valley!
Run under the Bureau of Land Management, this holding facility for wild horses and burros provides a natural and safe environment for these magnificent animals. A mixed group of 70-80 animals are offered for adoption every second Tuesday of the month. Adoptions are open to the public to learn more about the bidding process or to schedule a group tour. The drive-up interpretation center welcomes visitors to walk near the corrals and fences to view the animals. The 12 lush, green pastures also serve as a resting point for animals arriving from the West and being shipped to adoption locations in the central and eastern United States.
The Adopt-A-Horse or Burro Program was established in 1973 to meet the challenges of balancing the health of public lands with the health of the wild horses and burros. The program holds adoptions across the US throughout the year on 259 million acres of public land including Pauls Valley. The Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center herds horses and burros in the area they were found roaming in since 1971. Visitors are welcome to walk near corrals and fences for better viewing opportunities, but may not enter pastures.
