Your Guide to Lake Texoma

Hi friends!

On the edge of Oklahoma and Texas, you’ll find Oklahoma’s second largest lake and a state park – Lake Texoma State Park. The lake is 89,000 acres in Bryan, Marshall, Johnston and Love counties in Oklahoma and even extends into two counties in Texas. Construction for a dam to create the lake began in 1939 and was completed in 1944. After the dam was completed and the lake began to fill, it drastically changed the landscape of the area. Railroads, highways and even cemeteries had to relocate before being submerged. Even the small town of Woodville was submerged and is now an underwater ghost town!

Lake Texoma has a fascinating history, and is a great place to make your own history this spring and summer. If you’re ready for lake season, read below for a guide to one of the most popular lakes in Oklahoma.

Places to Stay

There are plenty of places for you to stay on an overnight trip to Lake Texoma. The state park  has approximately 88 full hookup RV sites, 41 RV sites with water and electric and 200 tent sites and is also home to Catfish Bay Marina. There’s also a variety of cabin options outside of the park, including Cabin Fever Adventures near Kingston. These cabins have a fully furnished kitchen, a TV, WiFi, and a grill for all of your grilling needs.

Another great place to stay near the water is the Alberta Creek Resort and Marina. The resort is only a few yards from the water and has multiple places to spend the night including lodging that sleeps up to 10 people. This area also has an RV park with 31 RV hookups.

Places to Eat

Want to have a meal on the water? Stop by the Alberta Creek Resort Floating Café on the floating dock at the edge of Alberta Creek Resort and Marina. I've been eating here since I was a kid and let tell you, the café never disappoints. From breakfast to chicken fried streak and everything in between, this place has it all. If you ask me.... I recommend the fluffy, mile-high pancakes! From mid-March through mid-November, the café is open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch.

The Burger Shoppe in downtown Kingston (only a few minutes from the lake) is a locally owned restaurant that claims to have “The Best Hamburgers on Lake Texoma.” This restaurant is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and offers a variety of hamburgers and sandwiches. This is also THE place to visit for dessert – try an ice cream float, a shake, or another tasty treat!

Fun Activities

Lake Texoma is a great place to spend a day outdoors exploring or … fishing! It’s one of the top Striped Bass fishing destinations in the southwest. If you’re not familiar with the lake, go on a guided fishing trip with the T Striper Guide Service. Local experts will teach you everything you need to know about striper fishing.
