Ten Famous Baseball Players from Chickasaw Country

I know, I know, this time of year is basketball central, but did you know that April 4 is special for another sport? It’s baseball Opening Day! It’s a fact—I’ve always been a huge baseball fan. Post me up with some Cracker Jack and a soda, and I’m ready to spend a spring/summer day at the ballpark.

To celebrate opening day, I thought I’d let you all know about 10 famous Major League Baseball players that are from right here in Chickasaw Country.

Fern Bell: Born in Ada on January 21, 1913, Fern played for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1939 to 1940.

Nick Blackburn: Born in Ada on February 24, 1982, Nick played for the Minnesota Twins from 2007 to 2012.

Cy Blanton: Born in Waurika on July 6, 1908, Cy played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies from 1934 to 1942.

Alvin Dark: Born in Comanche on January 7, 1922, Alvin played for the Boston Braves, New York Giants, St Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Braves from 1946 to 1960.

Don Kaiser: Born in Byng on February 3, 1935, Don played for the Chicago Cubs from 1955 to 1957.

Terry Humphrey: Born in Chickasha on August 4, 1949, Terry played for the Montreal Expos, Detroit Tigers and California Angels from 1971 to 1979.

Bob Muncrief: Born in Madill on January 28, 1916, Bob played for the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees from 1937 to 1951.

Tommie Sisk: Born in Ardmore on April 12, 1942, Tommie played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox from 1962 to 1970.

Jerry Walker: Born in Ada on February 12, 1939, Jerry played for the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Athletics and Cleveland Indians from 1957 to 1964.

Reggie Willits: Born in Chickasha on May 30, 1981, Reggie for the Los Angeles Angels from 2006 to 2011.
