Livin' La Vida a La Roca
Walking into a Mexican restaurant I’ve never tried before always causes a range of emotions. Will the salsa be spicy enough? Do I get a free appetizer queso? Will I walk out of this place needing a post-feast nap?
I recently visited La Roca in Marietta and enjoyed more than just the food. La Roca is certainly a local favorite for those who live nearby, is Lake Murray bound or are passing through the area. The hostess shared the fun fact with me that all of the decorations in the place come straight from Mexico.
So, lets talk food. First things first: get your belly ready for complimentary chips, salsa and queso as soon as your backside hits the seat cushions.
La Roca’s menu isn’t your average selection of Tex-Mex. From seafood dishes full of shrimp to migas and omelettes, you’re sure to find something unique that will tickle your fancy.
While I have to admit my sampler of fajita chicken nachos and steak quesadillas did have me walking out of there ready for a nap, the food wasn’t my favorite part of this trip. The highlight was feeling like La Roca serves as a spot for people to catch up, see friends and neighbors and talk about the happenings around town—like a high school cafeteria for all ages!
Chatter all around the place included questions about how family members were doing, what was new with someone’s house remodel and much more. Of course, everyone seemed to know everyone’s name as people took a break from their day for lunch and to catch up.
As one group rushed to get their check so they could make the local high school track meet, my very friendly server set me up with a Coke to go, and I mentally sent good luck vibes to the athlete they were supporting.
La Roca is a spot you can visit for the food, but the friendly folks you’ll meet there will make you want to stick around and enjoy the conversation and atmosphere!
