Hometown Friday Night

No matter how old you get, there’s something about returning to your hometown. The familiar sights, sounds and faces welcome you as though you never left.

This past Friday night, I took my sister and my 92-year-old grandpa with me to the town I call my own, Blanchard.

We started the evening by eating at one of our favorite restaurants, Burrito Grill. Now, for those of you who have never been here, I promise you’ll love it. From their quesadillas to their tacos, burritos or salads, their food can’t be beat. My personal favorite is the chicken quesadilla with corn salsa. Don’t forget the chips and queso!

After our bellies were sufficiently full, it was time to head to the Summer Concert Series at Lions Park. This event is every Friday night in June and July, featuring local bands from country to rock and roll.

Once the three of us had a spot picked out, the lawn chairs were placed, and it was time to listen and relax to the sounds of the Red Dirt Road Band.

At one point in the evening, my sister and I asked our grandpa if he was getting too warm being outside. At this, he said, “Just warm enough to need a chocolate malt on the way home!”

We gladly took the hint and headed for the nearest Braum’s in Newcastle. Two chocolate malts and a root beer float later, we were ready to call it a night.

To say that I had a great Friday night with these two is an understatement. The next time you’re exploring Chickasaw Country with your family, let me know on our Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!
