Go to a coffee shop right now, and there’s guaranteed to be a pumpkin spice something on the menu. It’s the unspoken rule that it’s time to start thinking about all things fall, especially regarding activities.
Luckily, Chickasaw Country has you covered with fun-filled activities to do this fall!
Fall Foliage – The days are shorter, which triggers the leaves to change color and what a magnificent sight it is to see! Hues of orange, red, yellow and brown create a picturesque display at the many area parks in south-central Oklahoma. Take a drive through Lake Murray and Texoma to take in the beauty, or park your car and hike through the Chickasaw National Recreation Area for the perfect backdrop to enjoy a walk in the cooler temperatures. Named Travel and Leisure Magazine’s choice for best campsite in Oklahoma, you can stay for the weekend to take in nature. You may even see a herd of American bison in the area.
Events Galore – Pumpkin Patches can be a fun day trip with the family, and Chickasaw Country has several throughout the area in October. Not only can you pick a pumpkin, but there are mazes, hayrides, games and more while you visit. Check them out below!

The Heart of Fall Craft, Vintage & Junk Show is happening Saturday, October 15. This Purcell craft show is held outdoors, so you can enjoy the fall weather while you shop the handmade crafts, décor, clothing boutiques and more. There will also be food trucks to serve you tasty treats while you shop.

Brown Ranch Hay Maze is Oklahoma’s largest hay maze! Now in its 19th season, the family-friendly attraction has over 20 activities for all ages, including train rides, hay rides, the cowboy dash obstacle course, barrel racing and more. They will be open on weekends from Saturday, October 1, through Sunday, October 30.
Outdoor Adventures - Chickasaw Country encompasses more than 7,600 square miles of beautiful landscape, and you can count on many ways to take it all in while you’re outside.
On October 28th and 29th, athletes from all over will head to Ardmore for the Lake Murray Endurance Run. This annual event at Oklahoma’s largest state park will include several routes, including a 100-mile run, 50K, 25K and 5-mile run. All participants will receive a race t-shirt, with the top finishers receiving a prize.
For the angler in the family, Lake of the Arbuckles in Sulphur is a great place to catch catfish, crappie, bass and perch. Believe it or not, bass up to 40 pounds have been found in this lake. The lake’s clear water also makes it an excellent spot for scuba diving. You can also head over to Blue River in Tishomingo, where the blue water makes this destination one to remember. Other significant fishing areas include Lake Murray, Lake Texoma, Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge, Veterans Lake, Lake Humphreys, Clear Creek Lake and more. You can get a hunting and fishing license at the following locations: Chickasaw Nation Information Center, Chickasaw Visitor Center and the Chickasaw Nation Welcome Center.
