Christmas Lights in Chickasaw Country
There’s something magical about this time of year. It takes me back to when I was a child trying to stay awake until Santa made his stop at my house. I would leave reindeer food on the sidewalk and milk and cookies for Santa. Early on Christmas morning, I would wake up to find the treats completely gone, but my stocking was full of new goodies to discover!
There are certain traditions, like waiting for Santa, that bring back all of the nostalgic feels. Some of my favorite holiday traditions are:
- Waking up insanely early and eating breakfast on Christmas morning with my family.
- Wearing Christmas pjs and cuddling up with a blanket to watch It’s a Wonderful Life a few days before Christmas.
- Bundling up in scarves and gloves to walk or drive through a local light display.
Chickasaw Country is home to five different one-of-a-kind light displays, and it’s the perfect place to start your own tradition.
Chickasha Festival of Light
The Chickasha Festival of Light in Chickasha is a Christmas lights display like none other! It has been recognized as one of the nation's top 10 holiday light displays. Yes, you read that right! The light display covers over 43 acres and has 3.5 million twinkling lights. This light display has been a tradition for 26 years in the community and is organized and planned by local volunteers.
My favorite part of the Chickasaw Festival of Light is it’s walkability – park your car and explore over a hundred festive scenes on foot! One of the most famous parts of the light display is the beautiful light bridge in the middle of the park. This is a great place for pictures!
The Festival of Light isn’t just Christmas lights. They also have a Ferris wheel, carriage rides, camel rides, laser tag, a petting zoo, a live nativity scene, and a food truck park!
The Festival of Light is open until December 30, and admission is free! The activities above require a small fee, but parking and viewing the lights is open to the public at no charge.
