An evening of Culture
The Chickasaw Cultural Center opened in Sulphur, OK in 2010 and sits on a sprawling 184 acres of land. The architecture, landscaping and activities are next to none.
When the four tires on my car turned into the parking lot, I'm 99 percent sure my stomach dropped to the floorboard.
It is incredible.
My passport has a few stamps from various travels – where I've searched for cultural experiences. However, it never occurred to me that we are fortunate to have an abundant culture within the boundaries of our state lines.
This state-of-the-art facility is welcoming, educational and entertaining. As an Oklahoman, I'm proud we have such a great facility to showcase Chickasaw culture.
With that said, we need to focus on entertainment.
Although every building was open to tour, my immediate attention was drawn to the Chikasha Inchokka', or the Traditional Village.
This recreation of a traditional Chickasaw village is a better representation than any history book's copy can describe. You can overlook the location from the sky pavilion and take a step back in time.
Someday we'll discuss stickball. It's the most intense sport I've ever witnessed. It may take me a while to wrap my head around it, and I'm pretty certain I will need lessons.
