Appreciate the wild-west in Dickson, home to the D&H Cattle, famous for breeding world-class bucking bulls used in the PBR!
Heading east from Ardmore on Highway 199, you drive over rolling hills and sprawling, green pastures into the town of Dickson.
Dickson, Oklahoma sits just ten miles east of Ardmore. With a population of 1200, the town was founded to serve as a source of education for early settlers, and the school serves as a hub of activity for the town to this day.
In 1923, due to businesses clustering within the area, a school was deemed to be necessary and was built, forming Dickson Consolidated School District.
Ultimately the Dickson School District consolidated with many schools- Clinton, Mulkey, Nelda, Baum, Durwood, Mary Niblack, Provence, Pruitt, Smyrma, Gene Autry, and Springdale- which helped confirm its status as the one of the current largest school districts in Oklahoma.
Forty-five years after the school district began, the town of Dickson was incorporated in 1968.
The school system has remained central to life in Dickson, earning awards throughout the years, including state championships for cross-country and powerlifting. The high school has also been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the US Department of Education.
Across the street from the school, you can see many locals swing by the Pro Mart Grill to grab lunch and catch up.
Dickson is also home to the world-renowned cattle ranch, D&H Cattle. Run by the Page family, which has been on the 1500 acres north of Dickson for 6 generation, the bulls produced by this ranch are known for their incredible power and popularity in the Professional Bull Riding circuit, as well as the American Bucking Bull Inc.
