Newcastle roots from its historic main street, originally known as the Ozark Trail, which ran from Rogers, Arkansas to Roswell, New Mexico. Much of the trail was integrated into what is now US Highways 62. The city was first incorporated as South Newcastle in 1962 and later changed to Newcastle in 1965.
