Sunset Grill

Last year as I was driving through the Historic Depot District of Ardmore, Oklahoma, I noticed a building was "missing."  After doing some research I discovered that soon, a new business would be constructed and become Sunset Grill

Excited to see the new addition to Main Street, I took a drive to Ardmore to meet with owner, Jeff St. Clair! Jeff explained the building was in such disrepair that when architects and engineers tried to restore and stabilize it, the cement between the bricks would crumble. This ultimately led to the decision to rebuild from the ground up.

My first impression of the new building was, “those windows!” The two story brick beauty fits right in with the historical atmosphere of the Ardmore Depot District and has the most stunning arched windows lining the second story. Take a step inside and the first thing you notice is a bright red motorcycle. Now this isn’t any old motorcycle, but one from overseas used to transport oil from point A to point B many years ago (ask Mr. St. Clair for the story!) On one side of Sunset Grill, the restaurant is adorned with fresh flowers on each table and precisely folded napkins ready for its’ next patron. On the other side, an Irish pub featuring low dim lights, beer on tap and a music for everyone to enjoy! Upstairs is an entirely different story, but let me give you a little insight. Once complete, the second story of Sunset Grill will become, Sunset After Hours featuring a stage for live music, a bar and kitchen with its own menu options. Stayed tuned for Sunset After Hours, because the view of the Historic Depot District from this perspective is unlike any other!

As I sat down to talk with St. Clair, he filled me in on his 18+ years in the restaurant business overseas with his wife, Kristina and their move back to his hometown of Ardmore. Kristina St. Clair is the pastry chef for Sunset Grill and whips up delicious desserts from scratch daily. Plans to open a bakery in the empty lot down the street are in the works for the couple.

Now it’s time for what we’ve all been waiting for….cocktails and food! The Irish pub serves both local and craft beers and is the only location in the area to serve Guinness on tap. So if you’re not in the mood to eat, stop in and try some of their specialty drinks like the Ardmore Chiller and Sunset Blueberry Mule. The Sunset Grill serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. They offer a diverse menu for each setting highlighting steak and seafood features.

Below are a few of my top suggestions when you dine at Sunset Grill!

Breakfast: Sunset Sweet Potato Hash – This twist on a classic has sweet potatoes, sausage, green apples, brussel sprouts, red onion, spinach, maple vinaigrette and two eggs.

Brunch: Bottomless Mimosas! Need I say more? (Saturdays only!)

Lunch: Gumbo – The Cajun style gumbo is made up of onions, peppers, okra, white rice, chicken, andouille sausage, shrimp and… Alligator! Try it, you won’t regret it.

Dinner: Crab cakes – The top appetizer at Sunset Grill will have you coming back for more!

Caprese Salad – A lighter option, but the portion is enough for the entire table.

Fried Catfish – A favorite at Sunset Grill, the fried catfish is served with French fries, hush puppies, coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce.

Surf & Turf – Sunset Grill’s #1 Signature Entrée! This land and sea combo comes with an 8oz sirloin, jumbo prawn, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and an onion/mushroom sauce. Sunset Grill proudly features USDA Prime Omaha steaks.

Dessert: Red Velvet Cake – Pastry chef & owner Kristina St. Clair creates the signature dessert daily using a raspberry sauce, cream cheese frosting and berries!

Take advantage of Sunset Grill’s valet service as well as their car service. Need a ride home after dinner and drinks with friends? Sunset Grill offers their private car service to patrons to ensure everyone arrives home safely. Now that’s what I call hospitality!

This new addition to the Historic Depot District of Ardmore sure has made a statement! The overall experience was flawless and I was more than impressed. From the relaxing atmosphere and accommodations to the culinary creations, Sunset Grill is your next top stop in Chickasaw Country!
