Recap: Artesian Arts Festival

This past weekend was so exciting! The Inaugural Artesian Arts Festival turned out to be a wonderful event. Even the weather cooperated; maybe the weather gods heard all of our prayers Friday night. Any who, I could not be happier with how it all played out!

There were over 30 local Native American artists showcasing their work. Each artist booth was a little different than the last. There was everything you could imagine: woodworking, beadwork, photography, pottery, and basket weaving. Some artists gave live demonstrations of their talent, and my favorite was the basket weaving. That is some serious skill that I do not have!

This festival had something for every price point, so if you found something to fit into your collection, you could take it home! I found a picture of a Longhorn cow in a green pasture that I am dying to add to my artwork. The best part of this situation, it is only $25! I took his business card, and I am keeping it on file. We all have art that speaks to us, mine happens to be cows in pastures.

While I was browsing the artwork and shops, there was live music playing throughout the whole day. It was like having a soundtrack to my life (yeah that would be awesome, right?). There were numerous performers and bands on stage at different times. One of the crowd favorites was the band Injunuity. They have a unique sound that sets them apart. With a wood flute that has an interesting sound, it leaves you wanting more, for sure! Their CD would be perfect for a road trip, just to spice things up.

The Artesian plaza was filled with food trucks and booths. My personal favorite is grilled corn; it just reminds me of summer! Just remember one thing: floss! Thank goodness my friend Marek had some in her purse. I would have been walking around with grilled corn stuck in my teeth all day, and that’s not cool. Chickasaw Country is also known for their Indian tacos, so everyone was able to get their fix of fry bread on Saturday. Snow cones and ice cream trucks seemed to be the most popular. It was the perfect way to cool down and take a break.

Festivals are such a fun thing to bring the whole family to--you can find something to make everyone happy. The Arts Festival had kid crafts for them to make and take home, face painting, and shade to keep them cool. Some people even brought their dogs! I made friends with two of the cutest dogs Saturday! I just love making new furry friends while I am out and about.

Saturday was the perfect way to kick off Memorial Day weekend. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this festival. I see big things ahead! Next year, I hope you can join in on the fun!
