Hit the Trails in Chickasaw Country

Chickasaw National Recreation Area

Difficulty level: Beginner / Moderate

Known for its mineral water springs and streams, Sulphur offers visitors beautiful trails to get in touch with nature. The historic Chickasaw National Recreation Area has more than 30 miles of trails and all allow bikers except for the Travertine Creek Trail that starts behind the Travertine Nature Center. Whether you’re wanting to bike the 3-mile paved trail around Veterans Lake, look for bison on the 3.2-mile Bison Pasture Trail or hike the 2.4-mile trail to get to the top of Bromide Hill, the CNRA has many options for every skill level.

Waurika Lake

Difficulty level: Beginner

Located a few miles north of Waurika, Beaver Creek Nature Trails at Waurika Lake is a true hidden gem for hiking and biking lovers. The trail system is broken into four different color-coded loops that vary in length and scenery. Whether you’re looking to put in a quick mile on the blue loop or want to spend a little more time exploring on the orange loop, these trails are the perfect place to escape away to and get some fresh air.

Lake Murray State Park

Difficulty level: Beginner / Moderate

With more than 12,500 acres and crystal-clear waters, Lake Murray State Park in Ardmore has excellent trails for both hikers and bikers. The trail system located in the state park make up more than 30 miles of trail area combined! Buckhorn Trail, located on the west side of Lake Murray, is a popular 3.4 mile out-and-back style trail that follows along the beautiful lake and features a few charming bridges. Before heading home, be sure to head over to the south end of the lake to take one final hike up to Tucker Tower. The iconic building sits on a cliff and has a stunning panoramic view of Lake Murray

Wintersmith Park

Difficulty level: Beginner

Located in the northeast region of Chickasaw Country, Wintersmith Park in Ada is the perfect area for a leisurely stroll or ride. The Wintersmith Trail is a flat, paved 1.5-mile loop around a quiet lake for when you are looking to take things easy.
