Chisholm Trail Heritage Center
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is dedicated to celebrating the history, art and culture of the Chisholm Trail, the American cowboy and the American West.
Like a lot of Oklahomans, I was raised on a red dirt road, miles from town and learned to care for our livestock before myself. My dad instilled in me a love for Westerns and starched jeans – this is normal for a girl, right?
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is a place that stopped me dead in my tracks. Clearly, I was disappointed my dad wasn’t with me. He would have enjoyed this so much more than I would. And, I enjoyed it a lot.
Children can experience the Old West while trying their hand at a little steer roping. For this little guy, we were doing good to catch a horn or two, never mind that he’s looking that Goliath-size steer in the eyes.
The art was incredible, the kids' zone was amazing – but, the multi-sensory Experience Theatre that lets you smell the Oklahoma wildflowers, embarrassingly yell out at a hissing snake and feel the rain on your face – was just. Well, it was just. Man, I just don’t have the words. It’s just awesome.
The Center is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Over & Out.
Brooke.
