A Golden Afternoon In Goldsby
GOLDSBY, AMERICA.
It doesn’t get more quintessential small town than this, folks. Located just south of the Canadian River, Goldsby represents the northern entrance to Chickasaw Country along Interstate 35.
I was in the area the other day and figured I’d do some exploring. But seeing as it’s my most sacred life motto to NEVER explore on an empty stomach, I needed to fill my tummy tank.
With that in mind, I made a beeline for Libby’s Cafe. This family-owned and operated restaurant and bar is the pride of Goldsby, offering up your favorite Oklahoma homestyle meals since 1992.
I sat down at a table in the corner of the restaurant and looked over the extensive menu. I decided to settle on one of the cafe’s staples, the chicken fried steak lunch. A few minutes later, my ears detected a faint, repetitive thud behind me. I slipped out of my chair and took a peek over the counter into the kitchen and saw someone pounding out my chicken fried steak right before my eyes. Talk about fresh! Back at my seat a few minutes later, I found myself lost in anticipation of the hunk of meat I was about to devour when BEHOLD! A gargantuan plate of delicious Oklahoma fares appeared before me.
Bite after bite; I savored the perfect balance of quantity and quality. What could make this meal even better? (LIGHTBULB) Peach cobbler for dessert!
My first experience at Libby’s Cafe was truly sensational and not soon to be forgotten. Feeling a bit lethargic from my lunchtime escapades, I decided it was time for a walk.
Just south of Libby’s is the Goldsby Tag Agency, Town Hall and Community Center. Here you can find a beautiful park and veteran’s memorial, perfect for reflecting on the brave men and women who have served to protect our freedoms.
West of town is one of the most beautiful and unique venues in the area, Southwind Hills. Located on a 120-acre estate, Southwind Hills boasts rolling hills, ponds, a waterfall and more. The main attraction is the barn, which is hardly like any barn I’ve seen. This gorgeous facility was designed to host the most elaborate of events. I would’ve loved to have seen the inside in person, but you can imagine that Southwind Hills is solidly booked in the summertime, and I’ve already exceeded my weddings to crash this year.
Delicious food, eye-popping attractions and reflections on America’s greatest men and women were all I needed to call this trip a success. Next time you’re traveling to and from the big city, make it a point to stop and enjoy one of Chickasaw Country’s hidden treasures in Goldsby!
